I've had the honor to lead two remarkable organizations here in Sioux Falls: LodgeNet Interactive and the Washington Pavilion.
My career spanned 25 years at LodgeNet, from its early start-up days in the '80s (with the Sioux Falls Ramkota as our first hotel!) through 2012 when we were the world's largest provider of interactive TV & Internet services to more than 10,000 hotels and hospitals throughout the US, Canada & Mexico. Our Team was comprised of over 1,000 employees and it generated more than $400 million in revenue. After serving as Chairman & CEO of this public company for 13 years, I decided it was time to "retire" and look for an opportunity to give back to our community.
I joined Larry Toll in 2013 as co-President at the Washington Pavilion, our landmark cultural & science center in downtown Sioux Falls. Our mission was to create a solid financial and business foundation for the Pavilion so it could confidently carry out its mission to inspire, educate, entertain and enrich our community. After three years of service, I "re-retired" with a great sense of pride in the outstanding team at the Pavilion.
Sioux Falls is a wonderful place to live, work and raise a family because so many give so much back to our community. During my 38 years, I have striven to do the same.
I’ve been on the governing boards of our United Way, Avera McKennan Hospital, First Lutheran Church, the Sioux Falls Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Chamber Community Appeals to name a few. In June, I was elected to the National Board of Directors of the Good Samaritan Society. I’ve coached girls basketball & youth soccer and was active in the Roosevelt High Marching Band Parents Association. I am also a member of the Downtown Rotary.
Maryanne and I have three adult children, all of whom are proud graduates of Garfield Elementary, Edison Middle and Roosevelt High Schools. Each received a great education here which prepared them for life and our new economy.
I’m a native and graduate of Yankton High and earned my undergraduate degree in economics from Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH and law degree from Georgetown University in Washington DC. Maryanne (a native of the Boston area) and I moved to Sioux Falls immediately thereafter and have called Sioux Falls home for the past 38 years.
